Three alternative roads were enabled in Portuguesa to guarantee the connection between Guanare and the upper area of the state, after a bridge collapsed on the Guanare-Biscucuy highway and the municipalities of Sucre and Unda, in addition to the entity and the state of Trujillo, were cut off.
The Government of Portuguesa, as reported by the newspaper Úlmas Noticias, provided machinery, granular material and crews that were responsible for patrolling to open temporary accesses that allow pedestrian traffic, motorcycles and rustic vehicles, facilitating mobility for the inhabitants of the area and ensuring the removal of the coffee harvest, which this season involves about 20,000 producers from both Portuguesa and Boconó and Campo Elías (Trujillo).
The work was carried out “so that our people can pass,” the Regional Executive reported, in statements replicated by the aforementioned newspaper, an agency that works together with the ministries of Transport, Public Works and Water to deal with the emergency that occurred at midnight on Monday, November 18, due to the heavy rainfall recorded in recent months.
It was also reported that Five tubes of 100 inches and 12 meters in length were sent by the National Government to the Portuguese Government and are already in Biscucuy “for the immediate recovery of the bridge that collapsed in the El Bongo sector”, announced the regional government.
The work will begin once the old structure is demolished, which is located at kilometer 45 of the Guanare-Biscucuy highway, the main access road to the Portuguesa coffee axis, since it connects the municipalities of Guanare, Sucre and Unda, and also serves as a gateway to Trujillo, through Boconó, and even to the upper area of the state of Lara.
