The Bolivarian Government, in coordination between the government of Mérida and the Ministry of the Popular Power of Fisheries and Aquaculture, promotes the revitalization of trout production at La Mucuy Station, a strategic space that currently has a herd of 727 reproducers and an availability of 10 tons of trout ready for distribution and consumption by the Venezuelan people.
The initiative contemplates direct support to producers in the Andean entity through technical assistance programs, application of science and innovation in biotechnology. This deployment covers the 102 duly registered trout farmers in the region, strengthening the local productive fabric and the operational capacities of rural aquaculture units.
The project also includes technical participation in a cooperation program with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aimed at genetically evaluating and optimizing aquaculture species through the use of advanced technology. This international alliance seeks to increase the resistance, quality and reproduction rate of trout in high Andean areas.
The sectoral authorities emphasized that the consolidation of these scientific and productive processes directly contributes to national food sovereignty, positioning Mérida as a reference axis in the development of sustainable aquaculture.
