Thousands of people have mobilized since the early hours of this Thursday in several Colombian cities in support of President Gustavo Petro and in rejection of a plan of institutional rupture led by the Attorney General's Office, the Telesur website reported.

He points out that in Bogotá, rallies were reported in front of the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office and also in the vicinity of the Supreme Court of Justice and at the headquarters of the National Learning Service (SENA).

As a common denominator, they demand the election of the new attorney general, especially after it became public that this morning the Supreme Court of Justice postponed its election to February 22. The demonstrators demand an end to corruption within the Public Ministry.

Local media reported that, from the above-mentioned points and other spaces in the capital, such as the National University and the National Park, demonstrators advanced to Plaza de Bolívar, to wait for the start of a mass event scheduled to begin at noon.

In addition to demanding that Attorney General Francisco Barbosa end his term of office, citizens are also calling for Deputy Attorney General Martha Mancera to leave office.

They state that both want to perpetuate themselves in that instance to cover up corruption and hinder the work of a Government that, for the first time in national history, represents the interests of dispossessed majorities.

Different political sectors, social, educational and citizen organizations in support of the Government of Change were registered early in the Las Luces Park, in the city of Medellín.

Thousands of demonstrators also marched peacefully through the streets of Cali, Nariño, Popayán, Tunja, Pereira, Manizales, Bucaramanga and Cucuta, among others, to the departmental headquarters of the Attorney General's Office and the Palaces of Justice.

Those mobilized at the national level include members of the Colombian Federation of Education Workers (FECODE), SENA, the Union of Teachers and Workers (Trade Unions) and the United Central of Workers (CUT), as well as militants and supporters of the Historical Pact and Human Colombia, students, workers and indigenous and peasant organizations.

Later, President Petro denounced that there were infiltrators in the mobilizations convened this day, who had harassed the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice in Bogotá, where the vote of the new prosecutor was scheduled to be held.

“The only one here that attacks justice is the extreme right who fears a decent prosecutor. Therefore, I order the National Police to act on people who prevent the free mobility of magistrates and to submit a public report of those who are being treated,” said the president through his account on the social network X.
