  • During the first administration of Carlos Andrés Pérez, 18-year-old student Roberto Ildegard Arias was killed in an alleged armed confrontation with PTJ officials, an event that occurred on San Antonio Street, at the intersection with Casanova Avenue in Sabana Grande.
  • The young man died instantly from a bullet that pierced his right shoulder and chest, destroying his vital organs.
  • A group of circumstantial witnesses, who witnessed his death, claimed that the young man did not shoot and was not even carrying firearms.
  • Following the escape of 28 political prisoners from the San Carlos Barracks, since January 18, the government has carried out a gigantic repressive campaign with the assistance of the DISIP, the PM, the National Guard, the DIM and the PTJ. Police fences, raids and mobile checkpoints were installed in Caracas, Los Teques, Guarenas, Los Valles del Tuy and La Guaira.
  • In one of these operations, Roberto Ildegard Arias was killed while driving his own vehicle and was surprised by a checkpoint from where he was shot for not stopping in time.
  • Echoing the official version, given by the press office of the Ministry of Internal Relations, it appeared in the forms that the vehicle was stolen and that the murdered young man was a “car thief”.
  • Roberto was not a guerrilla fighter, he was driving in a car he owned, nor did he have a criminal record for vehicle theft, as attributed by the press.
