The XVII General Assembly of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean began in Caracas

More than 60 indigenous and government delegations from various countries participate in the event

The Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC) officially began its 17th Ordinary General Assembly on Monday, May 27, under the theme “Towards a new intercultural dialogue for life based on the wisdom of Indigenous Peoples”, a meeting that will take place until May 29, in Caracas.

The information was released by FILAC, through its account on the social network X, in which it specified that more than 60 indigenous and governmental delegations from countries such as Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay and Venezuela participate in the event.

He explains that in these preparatory meetings they will establish guidelines for discussions in the General Assembly.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, who belongs to the Kariña ethnic group.

It also points out that on the first day of the day, parallel consultations will be held between the Indigenous Peoples and the Bolivarian Government, with the objective of establishing agreements on strategic issues from the perspective of the original peoples.

He points out that the consultations, which will address both the programmatic level and governance, with the purpose of ensuring the optimal functioning of the agency, are intended to provide relevant recommendations for the future of the organization in the biennium 2024-2026.

The main objective of the governmental body is to report on the achievements achieved and to present the FILAC planning guidelines until the year 2035, through a proactive dialogue, it seeks to establish a framework of commitments to strengthen the capacity of States to comply with strategic guidelines and the Ibero-American Plan of Action for the Implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
