The United States Department of the Treasury authorized transactions related to Chevron's joint operations in Venezuela until May 27.

“All transactions, ordinarily incidental and necessary to settle transactions previously authorized under General License 41 of Venezuela, issued on November 26, 2022, related to the operation and administration by Chevron Corporation or its subsidiaries in Venezuela (...) They are authorized until 00:01 Eastern time on May 27, 2025", reads the document, quoted by the Sputnik agency.

He also specified that the license does not allow paying taxes or royalties to the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela or dividends to the state company Petrleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) or its affiliates, as well as selling Chevron oil outside the United States.

The license also does not allow transactions with entities controlled by Russian firms based in Venezuela.

On February 26, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, annulled an agreement negotiated by the administration of former President Joe Biden (2021-2025) that granted Chevron an exemption to continue producing and exporting Venezuelan oil despite sanctions.
