The North American empire has no tact when it comes to human rights, least of all with minors. The proof is that by 2019, during the Donald Trump administration, the United States (USA) became the country with the highest rate of children in detention in the world.

This was reported by Manfred Nowak, an independent expert who led the United Nations (UN) Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty, at the time.

Nowak reported that in 2019 there were more than 100,000 children detained in the United States Department of Migration.

“The way in which babies were separated from families just to prevent irregular migration from Central America to the United States constitutes inhumane treatment for me, and that is absolutely prohibited by both treaties,” he said.

In 2022, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, described as alarming a report that reveals details about the criminalization of children in the United States.

“The Child Defender Fund recognizes flagrant violations of children's rights in the North American country. And that government intends to accuse Cuba. The double standard of the empire knows no limits,” he said.

The report cited by Diaz-Canel of the Child Defender Fund, a non-profit organization for the defense of children, based in Washington and offices in California, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas, demonstrates how “American children continue to be criminalized at an alarming rate and disparities persist.”

In July 2024, “the justice of the United States” partially ended the Flower Agreement , which historically for 27 years has provided judicial oversight over the care of migrant children.

“We are deeply disappointed by the court's ruling and are concerned that it will endanger thousands of children,” said Leecia Welch, lawyer for the plaintiffs and Deputy Legal Director of Children's Rights.

Some immigrant advocates remain concerned that the ruling could mean that some immigrant children detained by the Joe Biden administration end up in dangerous conditions. That is why it is striking that his administration wants to promote the false matrix that children are being arrested in Venezuela who express their discontent with President Nicolás Maduro.
