The Government of the United States (USA), made effective this Tuesday the ban on the entry into its territory of various goods from Canada worth an estimated billion dollars, intensifying the protectionist escalation that keeps trade relations between the two North American nations tense.

The repressive measure of the US administration directly impacts manufacturing and consumer sectors, including alcoholic beverages and transport vehicles, affecting bilateral trade and harming Canadian producers who depend on the market of the North American power.

Quote from representatives of the industrial sector regarding the commercial impact: “The ban remains serious for those producers who have spent years building a clientele in the United States, in the midst of a dispute that shows no immediate signs of resolution.”

The conflict jeopardizes the stability of the regional integration framework of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), since Ottawa categorically rejects Washington's demands aimed at imposing concessions on the sovereignty of its industrial sectors.
