(FRONTERA, March 21 and 22, 1991)

  • Ramón Darío Cadenas and Magdiel Páez García were killed in Trujillo and Mérida, respectively, while protesting the Army's search of the School of Forestry Engineering of the ULA, located in Ejido, where the boy Baloy Elías Gómez Mora, who was shot by a land traffic official, was seriously injured.
  • In the midst of this repressive wave, on March 20, in the Edo. Trujillo, 23-year-old Ramón Darío Cadenas, who was studying Management at the Rafael Rangel Nucleus of the University of the Andes (ULA), bled to death after being shot in the leg.
  • The following day, during the protests in Mérida over the murder of Ramón Darío Cadenas, Magdiel Páez García (25 years old), a student in the fifth semester of the Faculty of Humanities of the ULA, fell victim to government fire, who was hit by a blast of UZI in the abdomen carried out by an Army corporal, and died hours later at the University Hospital of Mérida.
  • These two massacres occurred during the second administration of Carlos Andrés Pérez, with Commander Gonzalo Vargas Ortiz responsible for the actions of the Army, who stated: “The perpetrator of the shooting that killed the student will not be punished”, adding that the military personnel “strictly did their duty”.
  • During the burial of Magdiel Páez García, the Army again made an appearance shooting its regulatory weapons into the air to prevent the massive demonstrations that invaded the streets of the city due to the absurd death of the two young students.
