The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck Ishikawa prefecture, on the west coast of Japan, continues to rise, and according to local authorities, there are already 62 fatalities.

According to the Kyodo news agency, the highest number of deaths occurred in the cities of Wajima and Su Zu, where dozens of people lost their lives. In addition, there may be people buried under the rubble of buildings.

Analyzing data from the Daichi 2 remote sensing satellite, the Japanese Geospatial Information Agency estimated that the earthquake caused the deformation of the Earth's crust throughout the Noto Peninsula of up to three meters in the western part of Wajima and one meter in the north of Suzu.
