As part of the preparations for the declaration of Casabe as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), knowledge-bearers from the town of Cúpira, from the Pedro Gual municipality of Miranda state, came together to contribute to the historical parameters of the file that was proposed by Venezuela.

In this regard, cassava practitioners, casaberos and cassava farmers shared their stories, experiences, anecdotes and contributions, as an expert community in the preparation of this traditional Venezuelan food, explained the delegate of the Miranda Center for Cultural Diversity, José Ángel Ramírez.

“Cúpira is an obligatory reference in Casablanca, they shared important historical elements and great community value that make this practice unique transmitted from generation to generation within the population,” he added.

He also noted that the meeting served to organize upcoming community meetings to publicize cassava, its ancient preparation, secrets, techniques and what this food from cassava means for the Venezuelan people.

It is estimated that the casabe will become the tenth Intangible Cultural Heritage of Venezuela, recognized by UNESCO.
