This Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, Gabriela Sommerfeld, tried to justify the assault that the security forces of her Government carried out last Friday to kidnap former Vice President Jorge Glass, a political asylum at the Embassy of Mexico in Quito.
Sommerfield assured that Mexico “first” failed to comply with the Vienna and asylum conventions, and “did not give concrete answers” to the Andean country regarding its requests regarding former Vice President Jorge Glas, who was prosecuted in alleged cases of corruption and now kidnapped in a maximum security prison.
More than 60 hours after the armed incursion into the diplomatic legation, the chancellor said that: “as a diplomatic channel, we sent all the documentation that demonstrated, through the Court of Justice, what the situation of the then guest was, they called, and then an asylum seeker so that we do not proceed because it did not apply”, that measure.
