(LIFE, May 11, 1964 and 2001, August 20, 1993)
- According to a report by the U.S. Commission on Narcotic Drugs, in May 1964, the illicit trade in narcotics formed a network spread all over the world.
- In New York City, there were 46,000 registered heroin addicts (papaver somniferum) and, across the United States, 588,000 people injected this deadly opioid daily.
- By that same date, 12,500,000 people were addicted to marijuana, considered a ladder to the use of more harmful drugs, mainly from Mexico.
- Cocaine, coming from Peru and Bolivia, much more expensive, was by then the drug of choice for the wealthiest classes, which gave it invigorating and rejuvenating powers.
- By this date, according to the report of the U.S. Commission on Narcotic Drugs, heroin came mainly from clandestine laboratories set up in the South of France, controlled by Italian mafias in Sicily and port companies in the United States.
- To introduce heroin to American soil, the report says, the mafia also used unsuspected high-ranking “mules”, such as the Mexican ambassador, Salvador Pardo Bolart; the Uruguayan diplomat, Carlos Aristzi; the Air France stewardess, Simone Christmann; and the Guatemalan ambassador to Belgium, Mauricio Rosal.
- However, local, customs and port mafias, acting in complicity with New York drug cartels, always appeared as in the movie “Untouchables”.
- “The Untouchables” was the syndicate of mafias or organized crime focused on the trafficking, distribution and laundering of dirty money derived from drug trafficking.
- For these purposes, the Mafia, in complicity with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), agreed to create the “Sin City” or “Sin City”. First large washing machine institutionalized in that country to launder multi-million dollar fortunes of illicit origin.
- The laundering of money derived from drug trafficking in the United States is long-standing and has a long history. And those who have tried to intervene in this intricate network of accomplices have won a certain bullet to the head as a prize.
- It is worth remembering that the only Attorney General of the United States, Bob Kennedy, who called all the ringleaders of organized crime linked to drug trafficking, was unexpectedly shot dead during his presidential campaign in 1968.
- His brother John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) was equally lucky when he was president, who was shot three times by three different snipers in Dallas, Texas, on November 23, 1963, among many other reasons, for having betrayed the pact that his father Joe Kennedy made with the mafias to bring him to the White House.
- On the other hand, Coca Cola owes its name to cocaine (tropane alkaloid), a beverage widely consumed in the United States. In its original prescription, a high percentage of this drug was added to make it more “invigorating and stimulating” for users. This brand was registered by its creator, the pharmacist John Pemberton in 1886.
- Pemberton became addicted to morphine, convicted and confessed, after his participation in the Civil War (1861-1865), because of his easy access to substances so harmful to health, which have always existed in the United States.
