The Venezuelan film The Fish That Smokes, by Luis Fernández, will participate in the 41st edition of the Mar del Plata Film Festival, in Argentina, which will be held from November 5 to 15.
The film, starring Mimí Lazo, Fran Berenguer, Jorge Reyes, Claudia Rojas, Rafael Romero and José Torres, will be present at what the production team stands out as “the only Category A festival in Latin America, which defines it at the level of titans such as Cannes, Venice or Berlin”.
“The fact that they chose our film among 1,127 nominated works from all over the world demonstrates the enormous quality, strength and artistic value of this production,” the producers wrote on social networks, where they also announced that the film is a candidate for the Goya Awards 2027.
In addition, the production inspired by the Venezuelan classic of the same name announced that it is preparing for the international premiere.
The Smoking Fish (2026) hit national theaters on October 15. Since the project became known, the film generated great expectation because it bears the name of the one that Román Chalbaud premiered in 1977, in which Mimí Lazo participated as an extra.
