(EL NACIONAL, November 19, 2004)

  • 20 years ago, on November 18, 2004, Danilo Baltazar Anderson, the 4th Environmental Prosecutor with national competence, was the victim of an attack while driving his vehicle, which exploded at the height of Las Ciencias Avenue and Vargas Street, in Los Chaguaramos.
  • At that time, he had been appointed to investigate more than 400 people involved in the crimes that occurred in Puente Llaguno, during the coup d'etat of April 2002.
  • Regarding the assassination of Danilo Anderson, the President of the Republic, Hugo Chávez, said: “They are not going to impose an agenda of violence on us. There will be peace in Venezuela, but accompanied by justice. Of full and true justice so that there can be true democracy. I came to repeat that the fight is going on and to call for serenity...” He recalled that he had personally known Anderson and that he considered him a man who did not give in to blackmail or pressure”, so he assured that “the Fatherland is wounded by this vile murder”.
  • In this regard, the executive requested explanations from the United States Government regarding the operations of paramilitary groups operating from Florida and the incitements to assassination frequently published in the media under the unpunished gaze of his government.
  • This is in rejection of the statements made in Miami by Luis García Mirabal's F4 Command Group and actor Orlando Urdaneta, calling for magnicidal and terrorist actions in Venezuela.
  • The National Executive described the attack as a political assassination, whose primary objective was to intimidate the Judiciary and stop the investigations being carried out by Danilo Anderson, including the cases of 11-A, the assault on the Embassy of Cuba, El Carmonazo and the presence of soldiers in Plaza Altamira leading to a civil war.
  • Regarding the help offered by the United States ambassador, William Brownfield, to identify the perpetrators of the crime, José Vicente Rangel, Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, stated: “We are connecting the dots... This is an astounding blow against the rule of law and dialogue... We do not assume the investigation by making a priori statements. We are convinced that this is a brutal act of terrorism, which claims the life of a clean and honest official of the administration of justice.”
