On March 2, 1974 , the Caracas Polyhedron was inaugurated, an impressive architectural structure created by the Venezuelan Walter James Alcock, together with Héctor Hermidas and Roberto Andrade.

This majestic work, located south of the Venezuelan capital, has a gigantic dome 145 meters in diameter and 38 meters above the runway level, and has a capacity to receive 20,000 people.

Initially known as “El Coso de la Rinconada”, this space was created for various cultural and sporting events, fairs, political events and performing arts. In 2013, the Bolivarian Government remodeled the enclosure, providing it with modern technology.

In 2020, President Nicolás Maduro enabled the Caracas Polyhedron as a field hospital with more than a thousand beds to treat patients with COVID-19, and it also served as a testing center for the detection of the virus by senior medical staff.
