  • Rafael Urdaneta was a revolutionary student of the PCV, who served as a political activist in El Cementerio, Coche and other areas of Caracas.
  • After being arrested several times as part of a political persecution carried out by Digepol, he decided to open operations in other cities in Venezuela, taking advantage of his organizational capacity in the rural areas of the Morán district of the state of Lara.
  • On October 15, 1964, he traveled to San Felipe, Edo. Yaracuy on a party mission. He was arrested near the town of Guama and transferred to TO5 in Yumare where he was tortured by Digepol agents. He was later taken to a public plaza in Aroa, where he was lynched and butchered by members of the armed gangs of AD.
  • This act of terrorism was denounced by Deputy Jorge Dáger before the National Congress. It was the parliamentary block of the Popular Democratic Front (FDP), to which Dáger belonged and the Nationalist Revolutionary Party (PRN), of which José Vicente Rangel was part, that were responsible for gathering all the evidence of the lynching committed by the executioners of the General Directorate of Police of San Felipe and a multitude of Democratic Action militants.
  • The murder of student Rafael Urdaneta was one of the most horrendous murders ever committed in the history of State crimes in Venezuela.
  • The dozens of political prisoners who were tortured in the basements of the Las Brisas Building, headquarters of Digepol in Caracas, were also exposed to public light.
  • Throughout his administration, Raúl Leoni and his then Minister of Internal Relations, Gonzalo Barrios, kept a shameful silence.
