Terrorist attack leaves at least 10 police officers dead and 6 injured in northwestern Pakistan

At least ten officers died and six others were injured in a terrorist attack carried out early this Monday morning against a police station in the district of Dera Ismail Khan, in the northwestern Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, local police said.
A group of unknown terrorists attacked the Chaudhwan police station with sniper weapons, automatic rifles and hand grenades, in the Dera Ismail Khan district, police sources told Xinhua.
After the attack, police personnel and security forces immediately went to the scene and transferred the bodies and the injured to a nearby hospital.
Among the dead are six officers of the Swabi District Elite Police Force, deployed in the area after the increase in attacks ahead of the general elections to be held on Thursday.
Before the arrival of the police and security forces, the attackers managed to escape the place with an unknown destination.
The Police added that all roads leading to the area have been cordoned off and a search operation has been launched.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
