40 DEAD, 104 INJURED AND 1,000 DETAINEES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

MASSACRES OCCURRED IN LIDICE, LOMAS DE URDANETA, LA PASTORA, CATIA, ON “JANUARY 23”, LA GUAIRA, ACARIGUA, MARACAIBO AND MÉRIDA.

• In Caracas, on January 22, 1962, a drivers' strike broke out in solidarity with the transportation strike that began the day before in San Cristóbal, leaving three dead, dozens injured and hundreds arrested.
• That day, Teodoro Noguera Bracho, in Mérida, a 21-year-old student at that city's Industrial Technical School, fell victim to government fire.
• Rómulo Betancourt did not hesitate to use force of arms to attack thousands of people who came out to demonstrate in solidarity with the victims of the strike that took place in the capital of Tachira.
• In Lomas de Urdaneta, on January 23, Catia, Lídice and La Pastora, police brutality left a total of 20 dead and 74 injured.
• At the Emergency Room Post, located in Catia, the list of the following victims was announced on the billboard:

  • And Francisco Osorio Magallanes.
  • In La Pastora, Isaac Rafael Velásquez Luy was shot dead by National Guard agents in the occipital region.
  • Early in the morning, in Lídice, Martín Palacios, 15, was shot dead while on the roof of block 57.
  • Late at night, Elías David la Rosa, 18, was shot dead by police officers while trying to board a bus on the Santa Teresa-El Cementerio route.
  • Another of the victims in Caracas was the young 5th year high school student Ramón Augusto Guevara Solórzano, who was shot by Digepol agents near the New Circus.
  • During the riots in La Guaira, Digepol agents raided the Ad-Opposition (ARS) house, killing 19-year-old student Tiburcio Orta.
  • In Acarigua, that. In Portuguese, there were clashes between demonstrators and the authorities when the transport strike began to protest the payment of Civil Liability Insurance. In front of the “Curpa” cinema in Acarigua, Digepol agents caused the death of 27-year-old Ernesto Álvarez and seriously injured Antonio Pérez del Moral and Rafael Ponte, 26 people were arrested.
