The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that a citizen of Ugandan origin, admitted to a private clinic in Abuja, contracted the infection after traveling to Uganda and not to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), while her husband, an official of the Swiss embassy, remains in preventive isolation.
For its part, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Africa (CDC) confirmed that this diagnosis represents the first infection detected in Nigerian territory in the context of the current health emergency, whose main epicenter remains in the DRC, a country that already has more than 9,700 cases and 4,600 people dead.
In addition, the international health agency maintains epidemiological surveillance in the face of the rapid spread of the disease in different parts of the planet, registering active transmission and related infections in nations such as Kenya, France and the Netherlands.
This epidemiological update reinforces global alarms and the need to maintain rigorous border controls to mitigate the spread of the virus in the African region and other areas of the European continent.
