The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) declared the precautionary amparo filed by the opponent Henrique Capriles Radonsky to be inadmissible in order to lift his disqualification from holding public office.

In a ruling issued this Friday by the Political Administrative Chamber of the country's highest court, it is indicated that the sanction imposed on the opponent is based on acts in which he was found guilty.

“The contested acts ARE DECLARED FIRM, and consequently, citizen HENRIQUE CAPRILES RADONSKI, in accordance with Resolution No. 01-00-000239, dated April 6, 2017, IS DISQUALIFIED FOR FIFTEEN (15) YEARS FROM EXERCISING PUBLIC FUNCTIONS, for being involved, among others, in the following events: “For administrative irregularities that occurred during fiscal years 2011, 2012 and the first quarter of 2013, in the performance of his duties as Governor of the Bolivarian State of Miranda, having acted negligently in not presenting the Draft Budget Law for fiscal year 2013, before the Legislative Council of the aforementioned state (...)”, states the ruling exhaustively.

Similarly, in another ruling, the Supreme Court authorized other opponents Pablo Pérez Álvarez and Zulay Medina Sarmiento to hold public office.

The decision was made on the basis of a precautionary measure filed by both politicians in the light of the agreements signed in Barbados between the National Government and the opposition.

It should be remembered that on October 17, 2023, the delegations of the Bolivarian Government and the Unitary Platform of an opposition sector signed two partial agreements on the day of resumption of the dialogue and negotiation process that took place in the city of Bridgetown, in Barbados.

Partial agreements refer to the promotion of political rights and additional guarantees for all, and the protection of the vital interests of the nation.
