The president of the government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, agreed with the leaders of Ireland, Slovenia and Malta to recognize the State of Palestine.

According to a joint statement issued by the leaders of four countries, on the sidelines of the European summit held in Brussels, the action would take effect when “the right circumstances exist” and contribute to resolving the conflict in Western Asia.

The leaders of the four member states of the European Union (EU) stress their “willingness” to recognize Palestine, details Hispantv on its website.

“We have said that we will do it when it can make a positive contribution and the right circumstances are met,” says the text agreed between the head of the Spanish Executive and the prime ministers of Slovenia, Robert Golob; Malta, Robert Abela; and Ireland, Leo Varadkar, who announced his resignation this week.

At a press conference after the meeting of heads of state and government, Sánchez avoided setting deadlines, assuring that this group of countries must “calibrate well” when the step of recognizing Palestine is taken.
