Spain hosts the 30th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, an event that brings together delegations from the 22 countries of the Ibero-American Community in Madrid, under the slogan “Ibero-America. Together we build our community. Together we project it into the future and into the world.”
The event marks the return of the summit to Spanish territory after 14 years of absence and represents the fourth time that the country has acted as host, after the editions of Madrid (1992), Salamanca (2005) and Cádiz (2012). The meeting, which runs until November 6, is led by King Felipe VI, who will hold bilateral meetings with the attending leaders and will receive the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
Among the leaders participating in the event are the presidents of Chile, José Antonio Kast; Honduras, Nasry Asfura; Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo; Costa Rica, Laura Fernández; Paraguay, Santiago Peña, and Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz. The delegations of the 19 Latin American countries, together with Spain, Portugal and Andorra, address the region's main challenges.
According to the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), one of the key areas of the meeting is the creation of a regional collaboration around artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to reinforce digital and cultural sovereignty, reduce technological inequality and ensure the protection of fundamental rights through the secure exchange of infrastructures, resources and data.
