On November 22, 2006, Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez announced the launch of the Smile Mission, which sought to reverse the negative statistics according to which, out of every 10 Venezuelans over the age of 25, seven required dental prosthesis.

This social assistance was promoted by the Bolivarian Revolution to respond to those people with whom there was a social debt of more than 40 years, coming from the governments of the Fourth Republic.

Like all the missions created by the Bolivarian Government, the Sonrisa Mission offers a comprehensive and free service to those who deserve it, so it has a support network of 21 centers throughout the country, and a professional team qualified for such tasks. Since its inception, this program has served people across the country and has provided dental prostheses free of charge.

In 2014, President Nicolás Maduro approved resources for a new phase of the Smile Mission, to expand the coverage of this social program by creating 30 new dental care centers throughout the country.

In the same way, he ordered in April 2023 to give a new impetus to the Smile Mission. “We have to give our people their well-equipped smile. We have to take it to all communities and multiply it across the country,” he said.
