On September 29, 1912, the famous aviator Frank Boland made his long-awaited flight from the Hipodromo del Paraíso in Caracas, raised the aircraft without a tail before the scrutinizing eyes of President Juan Vicente Gómez, officials, cadets from the Aviation School, and a large audience that gathered to witness the historic flight that lasted 27 minutes.
The plane was a tailless biplane manufactured entirely by Boland, who at the time sought to consolidate himself as an aircraft manufacturer similar to the Wright brothers.
It was the first time that a plane had crossed the skies of Caracas, that same day, the newspaper El Universal published an article by the Venezuelan Luis Camilo Ramírez, an aviator graduated in France.
This historic event marked the beginning of aviation in our country, which led to the declaration of September 29, 1972, as Venezuelan Civil Aviation Day, according to a publication in the Official Gazette.
