Security forces take over Cipriano Castro Penitentiary Center

Members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces carried out an extraordinary inspection at the “Cipriano Castro” Western Penitentiary Center, located in Santa Ana, Córdoba municipality in the state of Táchira.

According to information released by a well-known national newspaper, this action is part of Operation Bolivarian Shield-Cacique Murachí, and was carried out by the Immediate Reaction and Custody Group, GRIC, of the Penitentiary Service under the command of Major José Toro Camejo.

The action is being carried out due to a series of irregularities presented inside the compound, including the death of an inmate last week, the media reported.

Faced with this fact, the search and review of the facilities was activated, at the request of the Minister of Penitentiary Affairs, Celsa Bautista.

The extraordinary mixed operation involved 520 military and police officers, 45 military personnel with equipment for the search, 120 soldiers with public order equipment, 75 with public security equipment and 20 motorized personnel. 260 Bolivarian national police officers were also activated.
