This Friday, the United Nations Security Council did not approve the motion for a resolution submitted by the United States (USA) to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and stop the genocide being committed by the Israeli occupying forces since October 7.
According to press reports, the resolution was vetoed by the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, permanent members of the Council. The document was also rejected by Algeria and Guyana abstained.
Vasily Nebenzya, Russian ambassador to the UN, described the document as hypocritical because it does not directly call for the silencing of weapons, despite the fact that more than five months have passed since the Zionist siege of Gaza has passed, with more than 32,000 Palestinians killed, more than 74,000 injured, around 7,000 missing under the rubble and the latent danger of famine and disease as a result of the bombing and the Israeli blockade.
The United States has repeatedly vetoed resolutions in favor of peace in the Gaza Strip and hoped that this document would receive full support from members of the Security Council.
The resolution presented by Washington addresses the need for an immediate ceasefire, but in exchange for the prior release of hostages by the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas.
