The executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, Jorge Arreaza, said today that the Latin American and Caribbean integration block is in a full awakening and reactivation with development in the political, social, economic, communication and cultural spheres.

“We have a plan, the Strategic Agenda 2030 - approved at the XXIII Summit of Heads of State and Government held on April 24 in Caracas - and a Peoples' Trade Agreement, which respects the potential and products of each country,” he said.

According to the Prensa Latina portal, the regional bloc is studying the reactivation of Sucre, the block's currency, as well as creating a cooperation agency to attract resources from other sources or international organizations.

“The ALBA-TCP resisted and we are in a moment of full reactivation,” the former Venezuelan foreign minister remarked during an interview on the International Dialogue program on Argentine radio, according to the source.

He stressed that in the case of Venezuela and Cuba they have continued to be present with great dignity and to endure the worst years of the blockade.

He said that the governments of the Alliance never stopped being in touch and when something happens in the world “it is ALBA that speaks out”.

The diplomat asserted that as an integration mechanism they are “open far beyond the formality of traditional integration mechanisms”.

We are not only the 10 countries that make up the block, but there are also social movements from all over the world, he remarked.
