The cinema reached the families who remain in the temporary camp of the Chato Candela stadium, located in the parish of January 23 in Caracas, on the night of Thursday, June 2, with the screening of the Venezuelan film “Caimans of the Galaxy”, directed by Ignacio Márquez.

The initiative is part of the “Screens of Hope” program, aimed at providing spaces for peace, recreation and emotional healing to communities affected by the double earthquake that occurred last June 24.

In this regard, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, who accompanied the activity, indicated that it took place thanks to the coordination between the National Cinematography Center (CNAC), the National Cinemateca Foundation and various government institutions to guarantee comprehensive care and social support in these camps.

“We are all deployed. We are standing and firm to lift up our homeland,” said the holder of the cultural portfolio.

For his part, Gustavo Cánchica, representing the Program for Peace and Democratic Coexistence, highlighted the solidarity demonstrated by various social sectors at the current juncture. “All personnel are deployed to dignify the conscience and ensure the peace of mind of every man and woman who suffered losses in this double earthquake,” he said.

The screening was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Audiovisual Culture, Miqueas “Piki” Figueroa, as well as the presidents of the CNAC, Román Chamorro; of the National Cinemateca, Rosa Raydán; of Amazonia Films, Vladimir Sosa Sarabia.

The “Screens of Hope” initiative will continue to tour the different transitional camps and vulnerable communities with the screening of national short and feature films.
