San Cristóbal: The City of Cordiality celebrates 464 years

On March 31, 1561, the city of San Cristóbal, in the state of Táchira, was founded by Juan de Maldonado y Ordóñez de Villaquirán.
Its foundation marked the territorial sovereignty between Venezuela and New Granada (Colombia). This city has been an important part of Venezuela's independence quest. One of the moments was the Admirable Campaign and at the end of it, Liberator Simon Bolivar planned the Battle of Carabobo from this territory.
The creation of several university campuses in the 1960s and 1970s attracted a significant number of students and later professionals. In turn, the San Sebastian International Fair, in honor of the city's patron saint, became for the second half of the 20th century a major event with the participation of different sports disciplines that have framed the fans in the city.
San Cristóbal, known as the City of Cordiality, is one of the oldest urban spaces in the country and stands out for the human quality of its people.
