San Carlos: Historic city with surprising landscapes celebrates 346 years (+anniversary)

On March 1, 1678, the capital of the state Cojedes was founded, with the name of San Carlos de Austria. It is located in the Central High Plains at 152 meters above sea level, on the banks of the Tirgua River, which is renamed the San Carlos River. It performs administrative functions, commercial activities and important agro-industries that process rice, sorghum, tobacco and corn. In addition, it is a regional livestock center that has gained dynamism with the local development of irrigated and mechanized agriculture.
There are no specific records of its founding, however, in the absence of an act, a series of arguments have been given as founder Fray Pedro de Berja or Verja. The truth is that there is evidence of a request made by the friar to the governor of the Province of Venezuela, Fernando de Villegas, to found a village with the name of San Carlos approved in 1677 and approved by Royal Decree at the end of the same year.
One of its places of tourist interest are the mountains of the town of La Sierra, 50 km north of the municipality of San Carlos, which has beautiful views and landscapes, where the cultivation of coffee, potatoes, yams and other crops also prevails. Also noteworthy is the La Boca Toma resort located on the banks of the San Carlos River. At the entrance to the city, it is impossible not to miss the famous Mango Garden, which houses a large sculpture of this popular fruit, which welcomes all visitors to the capital of Cojedeña.
In the War of Independence, events such as the Battle of Women and the concentration of the patriotic Army that would participate in the Battle of Carabobo, in 1821, in the house of La Blanquera, where the Liberator put the finishing touches to the plan of action of the momentous battle.
In the city, there is still La Blanquera, a colonial baroque-style house that functions as a museum, built in the 18th century.
