The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, held a press conference this Monday before the international media campaign that victimizes those who caused acts of violence after the announcement of the election results of July 28.
In this regard, the head of the country's criminal action recalled that in Venezuela there are no political prisoners, as transnational media companies have wanted to present, but that they are arrested for acts of violence that left 28 people dead. “They weren't peaceful demonstrators, they were armed people,” he said.
He also stressed that this type of act in countries such as the United Kingdom led to the conviction of 12-year-old children and that “in Venezuela there are no children in detention, there are teenagers who have unfortunately confessed that they were used; teenagers aged 16, some 17 years old, others are adults, the vast majority of them obviously”.
“People who acted for terrorist actions are criminals. They were paid with the objective of triggering a civil war after the presidential elections,” he said, while highlighting the response of the State security forces to control the situation and prevent violence from escalating.
With regard to the work carried out by the Public Ministry (MP) to do justice, he specified that 1,912 experiences and investigative steps have been carried out that have succeeded, within the framework of the Law, to show the truth of violent actions, “that anywhere in the world would have unanimous condemnation, but in the country, a sector seeks to stigmatize and misrepresent Venezuelan justice. They place the perpetrators of criminal acts as heroes. And where do the fatalities caused by the commandos remain?”
“The Public Ministry has approximately 300 documents that reveal the violent action of the so-called commandos,” he added.
Finally, he assured that the MP remains committed to compliance with laws and human rights.
