The Government of the Russian Federation, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed its categorical rejection of the arrest and indictment order issued against the former president of Cuba, Raúl Castro, by the judge of the state of Florida, Ariana Fajardo.

According to information provided by Radio Miraflores, the Eurasian country's foreign ministry denounced that the judicial action constitutes a maneuver motivated by a thirst for political revenge and ratified the firmness of the strategic alliance with Havana to confront the unilateral coercive measures promoted by Washington.

The decision against the Cuban leader revives a judicial process related to the shooting down of two planes belonging to the organization Brothers to the Rescue in February 1996, a fact described by the Moscow authorities and the Cuban Executive as a reactivated file with the purpose of destabilizing the region and trying to erode the sovereignty of the Caribbean nation.

For his part, the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, described the ruling as a “pathetic circus”, stressing that the population and leadership of the Caribbean island will remain firm in the defense of independence and national sovereignty in the face of pressure from the White House.
