On Friday, the People of the Russian Federation began to exercise their right to vote to elect, from among four candidates, the nation's new president for a six-year term.
The polling stations in the capital Moscow, St. Petersburg and regions in the same time zone opened their doors at 08:00 (local time).
In this way, almost the entire European part of the Russian Federation, where about 70 percent of the population lives, proceeds to vote.
Previously, the polls located in the regions of the Far East of Russia, specifically the easternmost areas of Kamchatka and Chukotka, began to receive the votes of the electorate.
Four candidates are competing for the highest state office in the 2024 elections, the eighth in the history of modern Russia.
The current president, Vladimir Putin (independent), Leonid Slutsky, for the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), Nikolai Jaritonov, for the Communist Party of Russia (KPRF), and Vladislav Davankov, for New People, are running in the elections.
