Russia will host the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS and BRICS+ member countries

This Monday and Tuesday, the city of Nizhny Novgorod in the Russian Federation will host the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS and BRICS+ member countries, and will be chaired by the foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov.

The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, arrived this Monday in the city where the foreign minister of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan and other foreign ministers of the member countries of the BRICS group, are also expected to participate.

Likewise, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, for Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and others and international delegations have arrived in the town in western Russia.

All guests were greeted with bread and salt, according to Russian tradition, Telesur detailed on its website.

“During the next meetings, the parties plan to discuss current issues of international relations, the international agenda, the improvement of the global governance system with an emphasis on strengthening the role of developing countries, conflict resolution and interaction on the main multilateral platforms,” said the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova.

This is the first meeting of foreign ministers since the expansion of the BRICS in 2023. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia are now full members of the association. Some 30 more countries want to cooperate with the bloc in various formats.
