The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) expelled British diplomat Wilkes Edward Pryor, after signs were detected that he had carried out “subversive and intelligence activities” in the Eurasian nation.
In a statement, the Russian security agency said that through counterintelligence work “an undeclared presence of UK intelligence agents was discovered under the cover of the national Embassy in Moscow.”
Pryor replaced one of the six British intelligence agents who were expelled from Russia in August of this year, the agency said, which also explained that “upon obtaining an entry permit to enter the Slavic country, the individual deliberately provided false data, thus violating Russian legislation.”
The FSB detected that the illegal activities carried out by this diplomat threatened Russia's security and on these facts the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the interested bodies, decided to withdraw Pryor's accreditation and ordered him to leave the country within 2 weeks, the text says.
