The spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Dimitri Peskov, announced the appointment of experts Grigori Karasin and Sergei Beseda to represent the Eurasian nation in the next round of talks with the United States Government, scheduled for next week.
Karasin was vice-chancellor from 2005 to 2019 and currently serves as chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council (Senate), while Beseda is an advisor to the director of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The spokesman stressed that both “are expert negotiators with vast experience in this type of work” and assured that “they will represent Russia in the best possible way in the negotiations”. He also indicated that both sides are finalizing details for the talks, which could take place early next week.
The new negotiating round, to be held in the Saudi city of Riyadh (capital), follows the meeting on February 18, where both delegations met to seek the normalization of bilateral relations and facilitate possible negotiations on the conflict in Ukraine.
