Russia announced progress in negotiations on the de-dollarization of trade with Latin American countries

This Wednesday, the director of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Alexander Schetinin, in the framework of the XXVII International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg announced progress in negotiations on the de-dollarization of trade between Latin American countries and Moscow.

Russia is holding talks on the transition to alternative forms of transactions with Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and the BRICS member countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), the diplomat specified.

He also said that it is a “process of negotiations between banking and business entities... On the search for the most acceptable and comfortable forms of interaction to ensure commercial and economic ties between our countries.”

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, reported last April 22 that Russia and China were ending the de-dollarization of bilateral economic ties. According to their data, more than 90% of reciprocal payments were made in national currencies.
