The high-level delegations of the Russian Federation and the United States (USA) met this Tuesday in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, in order to normalize relations between the two powers and move towards an agreement on the conflict in Ukraine, as well as to prepare for a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

The U.S. delegation includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

On the Russian side, it was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, and the presidential advisor for International Affairs, Yuri Ushakov, who traveled to Riyadh.

These are the first talks between the two countries since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine. Saudi Arabia not only acts as host to the representatives of both countries, but will also assume the role of mediator.

Vladimir Zelensky, stated that Ukraine “knew nothing” about the talks and that, in addition, it will not participate in them or recognize their conclusions.
