This Monday, April 08, the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, confirmed that Venezuela has never given its consent to the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to settle the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequiba.

Venezuela is one of the states that does not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. Venezuela does not give consent to the ICJ in the territorial dispute (...) With the hundreds of pieces of evidence we have provided today disassembling lie by lie in Guyana, today we have established the official position,” Rodríguez emphasized from the Netherlands.

In this regard, he recalled that our Homeland has always warned that “in an unusual way Guyana intends, in the 21st century, to validate a fraud, a crime that was committed 125 years ago, that would be very dangerous for international law and also for this Court”.

He confirmed once again that the only way to resolve the Essequibo controversy is the Geneva Agreement. “It is the defense of the Geneva Agreement that will allow legality,” he said and denounced how the colonial masters of the United States and the United Kingdom with Guyana are mounting an aggression against Venezuela.

Venezuela is a country recognized for complying with international agreements. This is an historic moment for prevention and for us to guarantee stability and peace in our region,” he said.
