On August 20, 2006, Commander Hugo Chávez inaugurated the Dr. Gilberto Rodríguez Ochoa Latin American Children's Cardiology Hospital.

This historic event for the benefit of the health of children, took place during the Aló Presidente program number 260, Commander Chávez fulfilled his dream of creating a health system that would guarantee life for the owners of the future of the Homeland.

With the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution, he was responsible for tending to the disastrous legacy of the Fourth Republic, a representative democracy that abandoned low-income families who could not afford surgery to their fate.

“A human or scientific, technological, integral leap, to ensure the care and life of the children of Venezuela and of the sister peoples of our America,” Chávez said during the inauguration.

The Children's Cardiology Department has the capacity to handle 4,500 annual surgeries and 80,000 outpatient visits.

Only a giant heart like Chávez's was it possible to save the hearts of Latin American boys and girls.
