The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic, Juan Manuel Méndez, concluded this Thursday, April 10, the rescue work after the tragedy last Tuesday, when the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed, leaving a total of 221 deaths, reported the Russian Today website.
He said that “we managed, all the institutions present here, to preserve the lives of 189 (people) that we were able to rescue, but unfortunately a balance of 221 people” died”.
“Today we completed the most difficult task I have had for 20 years at the head of the Operations Center,” said Méndez, who wept at what happened this week.
“I apologize because every time we see a person claim for their debt, for their relative, we were filled with impotence,” he confessed.
For its part, the Informador.mx portal, noted that the Dominican Minister of Health, Victor Atallah, assured that the Institute of Forensic Pathology and the National Institute of Forensic Sciences are working tirelessly to ensure “the identification and dignified delivery of bodies affected by the recent tragedy.”
“We are increasing our capacity to deliver bodies. Each of them requires an exhaustive necropsy process, which takes time, but we are getting results in record time,” he explained.
