The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrated its country's National Day this Wednesday with a cultural and recreational activity at the “José María Vargas” Sports Center, in the state of La Guaira.
The event was chaired by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Korea, Hansang Lee, together with the governor of the entity, José Alejandro Terán, and the Deputy Minister of International Trade, Marynna Saatdjian, accompanied by personalities from the Teresa Carreño Theater and representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Asian diplomatic mission opted for this charitable activity in order to express its sincerest solidarity with the Venezuelan community, highlighting the ties between South Korea and Venezuela through philanthropy.

“I want to express my sincerest solidarity with all the people who have suffered from the earthquakes of last June, especially to send a message of love and encouragement to families who have not yet been able to return to their homes,” emphasized the diplomat.

Lee stressed that “although Korea and Venezuela are very far away geographically, when we reach out to a person who is going through a difficult time, we can become close neighbors.”

“An idea called 'Hongik Ingan' has existed in Korea for a long time, which means 'to benefit all people'. We believe that accompanying those who go through difficult times is also part of that spirit,” he said.

This gesture is part of the humanitarian assistance that the South Korean Government has deployed in response to the crisis that occurred in Venezuelan territory after the double earthquake three months ago, distributed between the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) and $500,000 for tents, for a total of $8.5 million.

The activity was developed with artistic presentations by the Kpop group Demon Hunters, and the Latin American Instrument Orchestra (Odila) of the Teresa Carreño Theater; in addition to presentations of cultural stands with drinks, desserts and traditional South Korean games; and manual activities sponsored by the Korean School of Venezuela; followed by dance classes by the K-pop School.
