The comprehensive rehabilitation work of the National Pantheon is progressing at a rate of 85%, following the damage caused by the double earthquake of last June 24.
Crews and specialized technical personnel carry out work in strategic areas of the monument, in accordance with the protocols and regulations of the Cultural Heritage Institute. In the upper area of the infrastructure, the intervention covers more than 1,330 square meters of surface, and includes the replacement of the asphalt mantle in the affected sectors and the installation of more than 22,700 new tiles to ensure the waterproofing and protection of the roof.
Inside the enclosure, the project is in the final phase of cleaning and polishing the marble floors, a phase that previously included sanding, leveling and carpeting to preserve the original material. Progress is also being made in applying paint to walls, while niches and historic monuments remain protected with special coatings waiting for their next mechanical cleaning.
In parallel, the external facades and side towers are painted and refurbished, with the purpose of restoring aesthetic and structural splendour to the monument. A few weeks before commemorating its 151st anniversary, the National Executive confirms its commitment to preserve this emblematic site through an intervention that combines modern engineering with heritage protection.
