The Russian Central Electoral Commission released the first results of the counting of the presidential elections, which give the current President Vladimir Putin the winner with 86.48% of the votes for his re-election.

In this sense, according to information from RT, with 34.83% of the vote, Putin is followed by candidate Nikolai Jaritonov (4.04%); Vladislav Davankov (3.87%) and Leonid Slutsky (3.03%).

It is important to mention that the closing of the polling stations took place at 21:00 this Sunday, bringing to an end the third and final day of the presidential elections in Russia, and the counting of the votes began.

In addition, district electoral commissions have until March 19 to report the results, while electoral commissions of Russian federal subjects must do so by March 21. The results will be announced by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) before March 28.

Let's remember that the winning candidate must get 50% of the votes plus one. If none of them exceeds this percentage, the CEC will schedule a second round, to be held three weeks after the first and in which the two most voted candidates will face each other at the polls. The inauguration is scheduled for May 7.

In these elections, which lasted for three days for the first time in the country's history, all citizens over 18 years of age could exercise their right to vote by going to a polling station in person or through the option of electronic voting on the Internet. This possibility was accessible in 29 regions of Russia and was chosen by more than 4.9 million voters.

It is worth mentioning that the vote took place amid attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to undermine the electoral process with artillery attacks launched against border provinces, sabotage missions across the border and the sending of drones loaded with explosives.
