Venezuelan Ranger Suárez prescribed 10 strikeouts in seven innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, leading the big leagues in games won and effectiveness with a record of 9-0 and break a record for the franchise in force since 1910.
With this victory, the 28-year-old left-handed man who left without a decision in his first start of the campaign, completed victories in nine consecutive starts and a 1.36 ERA with a whip in 0.79 to also be the leader in this department of the National League.
According to the sports portal elnuevodiario.com.do, Suárez is the first pitcher to start 9-0 with an under-1.50 ERA in 10 starts since the Dominican Hall of Famer Juan Marichal won it in 1966. The only other American League and National League pitchers to do so since clean runs became official in 1912 are Hall of Famer Walter Johnson and Cy Falkenberg, both in 1913.
Suarez is the Phillies to win 9 starts since Earl Moore in 1910.
