On January 31, 1924, the Venezuelan Rafael Bolívar Coronado died, a victim of an influenza epidemic in Spain. He was a renowned co-author of Alma Llanera.
This writer and poet was resident in Spain, where he worked for Editorial América. In 1921, he settled in Barcelona and collaborated on the newspaper El Diluvio and in some of the most important publications of the time, such as El Cojo Ilustrado and El Nuevo Diario.
After meeting Pedro Elías Gutiérrez, he wrote the lyrics to Alma Llanera, which premiered in Caracas in 1914.
In this regard, historian Rafael Ramón Castellanos wrote about the life of Bolívar Coronado, stressing that the poet used more than 600 names, including those of Daniel Mendoza, which he used to sign his book El Llanero; Rafael María Baralt Blanco, with whom he published Spanish Letters, and Agustín Codazzi, signing the book Scientific Works.
