Racist and out of context! Republican senator uses audience to harass Tik Tok CEO

The CEO of the social network TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, was a victim of
racism and harassment by Republican Senator Tom Cotton, during
a hearing in the United States Senate (USA) last Wednesday.
Since 2023, Chew has faced North American
congressmen in different audiences who “distrust” the
Asian social network, and now, together with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and other leaders of
different technology companies, he has returned to senators from the
North American country, with whom he discussed the impact of social networks on adolescents.
In a video that went viral on social media, Senator
Cotton harassed and insistently questioned the relationship of the Singaporean CEO of Tik
Tok with China, asking questions out of context.
“You said today that you live in Singapore. What is your
nationality?” , asks Cotton, to which Chew answers: “From
Singapore”.
Cotton asks if the CEO of TikTok has any other
nationality or passport. Chew says no, but the intense interrogation
doesn't end there.
“Have you ever applied for
Chinese nationality?” , Cotton insists.
“Senator. I served my nation militarily for two and a half
years in Singapore. So no, I haven't,” Chew replies.
Cotton continues: “His wife and children are U.S.
citizens. Have you ever applied for
U.S. citizenship?”
“No, not yet,” says the CEO of TikTok.
“Have you ever been a member of the Communist Party of
China?” , asks the American senator.
Chew's answer is clear: “Senator, no. I am
Singaporean.”
“Have you ever been associated with or affiliated with the
Communist Party of China”? , repeats the American senator.
“No, Senator. Again: I'm Singaporean,” Chew
replies.
The U.S. senator has been heavily criticized on social
media for asking questions that are not related to the reason for
the meeting. Some even call it racist and ignorant.
