The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) expressed its solidarity with Cuba and rejected the arrest warrant against former Cuban President Raúl Castro, attributed to a court in the state of Florida, United States.

In a statement, the political organization questioned the measure against the 95-year-old Cuban historic leader and maintained that it contravenes principles of international law and constitutes an action against the island's sovereignty.

“This action is in addition to the intensification of the economic blockade and to the policy of material suffocation that has been applied to the Cuban people since January 2026, which calls for urgent and joint action by Latin American and Caribbean nations to demand an immediate end to the siege of the island,” the PSUV said in the document.

Below is the full statement:

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela expresses its solidarity with the people and government of Cuba, and expresses its firm rejection of the new arrest warrant issued by a court in the State of Florida, United States, against comrade Raúl Castro, Commander of the armies of the sister nation.

This intimidating maneuver against a 95-year-old historic leader, in addition to lacking real legal elements, violates the elementary principles of international law and seeks to undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of Cuba.

This action is in addition to the intensification of the economic blockade and to the policy of material suffocation that has been applied to the Cuban people since January 2026, calling for urgent and joint action by Latin American and Caribbean nations to demand an immediate end to the siege of the island.

Today more than ever, the PSUV reiterates its call to respect the sovereignty of Cuba and the right of its people to independence and free self-determination.
