Through the social network X, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, wrote a message this Friday to commemorate Afro-Venezuelan Day.

“We celebrate our roots, we are proud and proud to carry the genes of Mother Africa,” said the Head of State on the social network this Friday.

In this regard, he stressed that as part of the commemoration “today we will make the “Simón Bolívar” Monumental Stadium vibrate with the beating of thousands of drums at the great popular festival of the “Viva Venezuela” World Festival, which kicks off with force, paying homage to Afro-Venezuelanism”.

Since 2005, Venezuela has been commemorating Afro-Venezuelan Day, a date that pays tribute to the fight against slavery that African brothers freed in the country. This historic day is celebrated because May 10 marks the 223rd anniversary of the African rebellion led by José Leonardo Chirino.
